Dear John,

Recently at the Union, we’ve been asking: How do we engage friends and family about the threats to democracy when Americans are so polarized? Through our growing partnerships, we’ve found an answer: You talk about it. You talk about democracy.

While Americans often disagree on policy, we should all agree that sliding toward autocracy is dangerous. What steps can we take when family or friends confuse conspiracy theories with facts? What do you say when the facts your friends cite just aren’t right?

Join us next Tuesday for a transformative event.

Civic Genius, the Union, the Lincoln Project, and YOUnify are teaming up for this special event where you'll learn to talk about political extremism and practice skills you can use from the dinner table to the halls of Congress. Veteran international democracy advocate Trygve Olson will provide a crash course on keeping our nation in the hands of the people. He’ll be joined by Jillian Youngblood from Civic Genius and Brandyn Keating from YOUnify to share insights from behavioral science and community-based problem-solving.

Hope to see you Tuesday,
