Team,
This weekend, the Monterey Park community suffered a tragic loss when an armed man shot and killed 11 people and injured more on Saturday night. 48 hours later, seven more people were shot and killed in Half Moon Bay in yet another act of senseless gun violence. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this terror and violence.
These mass shootings are the latest examples of unspeakable gun violence ripping through our communities. We cannot continue to stand idly by while innocent lives are taken by individuals with easy access to firearms. We must take action to prevent these atrocities from happening again and again.
I’ve dedicated my time in Congress to advocating for gun control legislation that puts safety over the gun lobby.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which enhances background checks and expands access to mental health services, is just the latest piece of legislation that I’ve been proud to support. But it can’t be the last.
There’s still much work to be done to ensure our children, our friends, and our loved ones can live their day-to-day lives without fear of gun violence. I am committed to making that a reality.
My heart is with all of those suffering from unspeakable pain in California tonight. We can and must do more to protect our communities.
Be safe,
Linda
