For decades, Social Security and Medicare have been critical in helping millions of hard-working Americans live and retire with dignity and security. But with Republicans in control of the House, these earned benefits are now at risk.

Kevin McCarthy made concessions to the most extreme members of his party in order to become speaker of the House. Included was a promise not to raise the debt ceiling without making cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

Republicans have made it clear that robbing Americans of their earned benefits is at the top of their priorities. That's unacceptable.
