Nurses Deemed Most Honest and Ethical, Poll Finds (Again)
Nurses continue to earn the status as the most-trusted profession in the U.S., according to Gallup&rsquo;s annual poll, which has seen the field come out on top for more than two decades. Gallup reports that &ldquo;79% of U.S. adults who now say nurses have &lsquo;very high&rsquo; or &lsquo;high&rsquo; honesty and ethical standards is far more than any of the other 17 professions rated.

Innovation Shines in Health Equity Fund Award Winners
The Health Equity Innovations Award surfaced dozens of ideas from across the U.S. Now 16 projects from 11 states and D.C. have earned a total of $700,000 to address disparities in health care. Among them: A nurse-led drop-in center in Minnesota; a clinical rotation for nurses with a focus on nutrition in Wisconsin; curricula for nurses to address racism in health care in Louisiana. The award is an initiative from the AARP Center for Health Equity Through NursingSM and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action.

Full Practice Authority States Better Help Communities of Color
&ldquo;Full practice authority is a costless way of helping communities of color,&rdquo; write the authors of a new study from West Virginia University. Where nurses have full practice authority, the workforce tends to better match the state&rsquo;s racial and ethnic composition. Furthermore, nurses in such states see a higher percentage of Black Medicare beneficiaries, reflecting the fact that patients prefer to see primary care providers from backgrounds like theirs.

Joe, Lily, Others &ldquo;Shift the Understanding of Native People&rdquo;
Lisa Martin, PhD, RN, FAAN, wants to address the &ldquo;deficit narrative&rdquo; when it comes to health care for Native Americans. As the Campaign consultant writes, that&rsquo;s when providers are taught only the problems of Native communities. Martin, a member of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, has sketched out stories of eight composite characters that can open readers&rsquo; eyes to the richness of Native culture and to health care that matches real needs.

Public Helped Shape New Equity, Equality Illustration
You might be among those who have used a striking visual of people and bicycles to show the difference in meaning between &ldquo;equality&rdquo; and &ldquo;equity.&rdquo; Created by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, that visual has recently been updated based on hundreds of comments. Those suggestions also have led to an entirely new illustration that reflects structural barriers.

RWJF Health Policy Fellows Placed, Including 2 Nurses
The 2022-2023 class of RWJF Health Policy Fellows, which includes two nurses, will soon start their assignments in a congressional office or the executive branch. Among placements by the National Academy of Medicine and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: Lindsey Harris, DNP, who will work and learn in the office of U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (herself a nurse), and Kumhee Ro, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP, who will be in the office of U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine.

Florida has announced $79 million to go to high-performing nursing education programs, to be distributed through programs created to address the nursing shortage: Linking Industry to Nursing Education (LINE); and Prepping Institutions, Programs, Employers and Learners Through Incentives for Nursing Education (PIPELINE).

AARP&rsquo;s Community Challenge provides small grants to fund quick-action projects that can help communities become more livable. Funding Offered to Local, Regional Vaccine Efforts
The National Council on Aging wants to encourage people who are older or have disabilities to get COVID-19 and flu vaccinations, and is offering grants to help make that happen. The NCOA will award approximately 250 grants for six-, 12-, or 15-month projects to local organizations including senior centers and community centers. Applications accepted till March 15 or funds are depleted.
