John,
Lauren Boebert recently introduced her first bill of the 118th Congress: an uninspired copy/paste of the cliched right-wing crusade to "defund" Planned Parenthood.
The list of reasons why these "defund Planned Parenthood" bills are ineffective and stupid is much too long. Suffice it to say that, on the substance, cutting off federal funding to Planned Parenthood would harm millions of women (and men), many of them lower-income and/or persons of color, who rely on Planned Parenthood for routine reproductive healthcare at clinics across the country; and on process, these bills ignore that federal funding for abortions has been prohibited since 1973 under what is called the Hyde Amendment—and Planned Parenthood is legally entitled to receive reimbursement for non-abortion related healthcare from Medicaid and Medicare, or any government program, the same as any other provider.
In short, Boebert's pointless bill is just as empty and vapid as Boebert herself, as one would expect.
