Friends,
A lot has happened across our network of state freedom caucuses since we emailed you yesterday.
SOUTH CAROLINA
If you’re just reading about this for the first time, the SC Freedom Caucus was kicked out of the House GOP Caucus late last week in Columbia for refusing to sign leadership’s “loyalty oath” which prevents lawmakers from telling voters why their “Republican” colleagues are killing conservative bills.
Now, former Senator and conservative hero Jim DeMint weighed in with an op-ed ([link removed]) in a local news outlet. Key excerpt:
“Instead of passing draconian rules meant to muzzle conservative members, why doesn’t the House GOP Caucus and its members support the reform-minded conservative fighters who are standing on principle in opposition to this pledge? In a state where education is near the bottom in almost every category, where the state income tax is still the highest in the Southeast, and where legislators are choosing judges who believe it’s okay to kill babies, why are we looking to ostracize and attack the members most devoted to fixing these problems?”
Also, on Monday, we asked you to sign a petition ([link removed]) to show your support for the SC Freedom Caucus. As of today, it has 1,028 signatures! Please be sure to sign it if you haven’t already.
Finally, tune into the Glenn Beck radio show tomorrow morning at 9:30am ET to hear SC Freedom Caucus Chairman Adam Morgan talk about this ongoing fight.
MISSISSIPPI
The Mississippi State Senate is set to debate SB 2323 as early as this week. This horrible bill would give the government-owned University of Mississippi Medical Center the ability to buy out rural and community hospitals, thus consolidating its power. Thankfully, the Mississippi Freedom Caucus is fighting this bill. MSFC Chair Dana Criswell said, “This is an attempt at a complete government takeover of our hospital system in Mississippi. This will create a huge government-protected monopoly, driving out competition and ultimately putting private hospitals out of business.”
To be clear, this dumb bill is being pushed by Republicans in a Republican supermajority state. This is yet another reminder that not all Republicans elected to office are really conservative, let alone moderately Republican. They are full blown liberals.
The Mississippi Republican Party website even stresses that the party’s official position is to promote free-market competition in healthcare. Yet this bill does the opposite.
If you live in the Magnolia State, please call Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and tell him to kill this bill. He presides over the Senate and is currently in support of this bill. The sponsor of the bill is Sen. Joey Fillingane, a moderate Republican who has a long history of voting for corporate welfare and cronyism. You can call either at the capitol switchboard at (601)345-1211, and request your call to be routed to their offices.
IDAHO
A big school choice battle is brewing in Idaho. In one corner, we have the Idaho Freedom Caucus and the State Republican Party – both are advocating for a big expansion of school choice. In the other corner, we have “Republican” Governor Brad Little and the state education superintendent, Debbie Critchfield. Both of whom are on record against school choice.
It’s worth mentioning that the State GOP Platform endorses universal school choice. Yet another example of Republicans betraying their party’s official positions.
This week is “Education Week” in the state capitol. So expect this battle to become fully engaged very quickly. School choice is sweeping the nation. With the support of the Arizona Freedom Caucus members, they now have universal school choice in the Grand Canyon State. Utah, Iowa, and Florida are some other states that are moving quickly for universal expansion. Every state should be doing this, but certainly every red state. If Idaho isn’t able to do it, it’s because liberals masquerading as Republicans are thwarting it. In the coming days and weeks, the Idaho Freedom Caucus will be fighting them and will need your support. Stay tuned.
MONTANA
The Montana Freedom Caucus publicly launched last week with the support of House Freedom Caucus member, Rep. Matt Rosendale. Tying together the fact that the HFC fought Kevin McCarthy earlier this month during the speaker fight in DC, and the launch of the MT Freedom Caucus, Rosendale said ([link removed]) ,
“What you saw play out in Washington is what the power of a small group can do,” Rosendale said to a large crowd in the Capitol’s old Supreme Court chambers. “This [MT] freedom caucus is going to be … the tip of the spear.”
Naturally, the Far Left responded with hysterics. Letters to the editor of one liberal newspaper had these fun headlines: “The New Freedom Caucus Isn’t About Freedom” and “The Freedom Oppress Caucus”.
Sounds like we’re right over the target!
Please donate ([link removed]) to the State Freedom Caucus Network today so that our freedom-loving lawmakers can continue their great work to support families, faith, and freedom. The best way to save our country is to fight in the states. So we need your help!
Keep fighting,
Andy Roth
