After fourteen failed attempts at his speakership election, Kevin McCarthy caved to his far-right colleagues in the House on a number of concessions, including allowing a floor vote on the Fair Tax Act . That bill would abolish the IRS, cut taxes for billionaires, and result in a 30% national sales tax on everything you purchase from groceries to gas.

And that's not all. McCarthy's concessions to the far-right could also mean major cuts to programs like Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare.

Sadly, House Republicans have made it clear that they're willing to slash essential programs and raise taxes for working families – as long as it results in personal political and financial gain.
