There are many theories out there about why Mandela Barnes did not win when Governor Evers did win in Wisconsin.

A few facts. Barnes got less than 2% fewer votes than Evers and that was enough to result in a loss. One of the biggest discrepancies (though not the only one but probably the biggest) was that older white voters and female white voters older than 45 were less supportive of Barnes than Evers. Now this is not a statement that white voters are racist. But racism did play a role. It is a tactic, just as fear, misinformation, and outright lies are the tactics of some of the political tacticians on the Right.

Another fact, in the last month of the election Right Wing corporation wealthy dumped $29 million dollars into attacking Barnes for being weak on crime. This is a lie and misinformation but because it is the widespread belief that Black people are soft on crime, and even criminals themselves, this worked to weaken the white voter support of Barnes in a way that continues to drive a wedge between average white voters and all communities of color.

This is why Barnes lost.

A massive expenditure designed to keep white voters away from Black politicians is a common tactic of the Right. We will continue to fight this despicable tactic. The reality is that Black communities and all communities are concerned about public safety as much as any white voter. The reality is that conservatives are actually worse on public safety than candidates like Barnes. In reality the Trump conservatives have no solution for crime because they are mostly criminals themselves. But instead of street crime, they steal your money, your power, and mislead everyone away from scrutinizing their actions to enrich themselves at the cost of working people including working whites. 

We seek to bring all our communities together to solve the problems of better jobs, better healthcare, and yes safer communities. Understand that racism is a tactic that drives a wedge between us and people like the WI Right Wing (Uihleins and others) and outside dark money kings like Leondard Leo are funding the same racist and misinformation tactics that stole the election from Mandela Barnes.
