Here are some updates from the past few days.
The Vermont Supreme Court upheld a statute authorizing noncitizens who are legal U.S. residents in Montpelier, Vermont to vote in local elections. This ruling affirmed a lower court’s decision that found the law complies with the state constitution. [link removed]
After voters approved an amendment in the 2022 midterms to allow in-person early voting, Connecticut lawmakers have introduced at least six bills outlining an in-person early voting process. Connecticut is currently one of only four states without the option. [link removed]
Massachusetts lawmakers have introduced several proposals to end felony disenfranchisement through a state constitutional amendment. This constitutional amendment would align the Bay State with the handful of other jurisdictions — Maine, Vermont and Washington, D.C. — that permit all voters, regardless of criminal conviction or incarceration status, to vote. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) announced that her predecessor’s election fraud unit would refocus on protecting voter access and combating voter suppression. [link removed]
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) spoke to Pennsylvania House Republicans about Ohio’s newly enacted photo ID law as Pennsylvania considers passing its own. [link removed]
