Dear John,

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just took an important step toward slashing a tiny but toxic pollutant that’s inhaled daily by millions of people – soot.

However, health and environmental experts agree that EPA must go even farther to protect public health and save lives.

Take action to protect your health! Submit a public comment and urge the EPA to set stronger standards for health-harming soot pollution. [link removed]

Soot, officially known as particle pollution, is primarily caused by burning fossil fuels and is commonly emitted by vehicle tailpipes, power plants and other industrial sources. This form of pollution is exceptionally lethal because it’s made up of tiny particles that can evade the body’s defenses and burrow deep into the lungs.

Exposure to, and inhalation of, soot has been linked to increased mortality rates, hospitalizations and visits to the emergency room. It is also linked to a variety of heart and lung diseases, in addition to reduced lung development in children, higher rates of asthma, bronchitis, heart disease and cancer.

For years, environmental groups, including EDF, have maintained that the current standards are outdated and do not adequately protect public health. And now we have the opportunity to change that!

Don’t miss this chance to protect our communities from deadly soot pollution. Raise your voice and call for the strongest protections possible to slash health harming air pollution. [link removed]

Thank you for your leadership,
