Congressman Jeffries' story is reminiscent of the American Dream. Born in a diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn to a working-class family, Hakeem Jeffries had nothing handed to him on a silver platter. He had to work hard every single day to forge opportunities for himself.

Now, his number one goal as the House Democratic leader is to create the opportunities he had to build for himself for people in every zip code. He is focused on building an economy that works for everyone – not just the wealthy elites – and will never stop fighting until true equality is obtained.
