Another mass shooting narrative all too common in America because of the easy access to guns and the lack of federal legislation to address our country's gun violence epidemic. 

 

States United supports the Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act. A comprehensive legislation that addresses universal background checks, safe storage and more. 

 

America loves a hero. But we need to stop asking citizens, business owners, school children, passers-by to launch themselves into hero status because we are too weak to pass truly comprehensive gun safety laws AND invest the necessary funds to implement them properly and combat the brutal misinformation that comes out of the gun industry.

State News

Oregon: Measure 114 was blocked by Harney County Circuit Judge Raschio in its entirety on January 4, 2023. The law, which included expanded background checks and a ban on magazines greater than 10 rounds, was passed by voters in the 2022 November elections.

New York: The Supreme Court rejected a group of firearms dealers’ emergency request to block various gun control measures recently passed in New York that they argued were unconstitutional and hurt their businesses. It was the second denial of a request to block portions of New York’s new gun regulations.

Illinois: Protect Illinois Communities Act was signed into law on January 10, 2023. It includes an assault weapons ban and limit on large capacity and rapid fire devices.

Rhode Island: Federal Judge John J. McConnell Jr. ruled to uphold Rhode Island's law banning magazines that carry more than 10 rounds in favor of public safety.

Massachusetts: After 9 years at the helm, Zoe Grover-Scicchianto resigned as Executive Director of Stop Handgun Violence at the end of 2022. Sonya Y. Coleman was announced as their new part-time Executive Director.
