Team,
Last year was a historic one. It was a year that proved that when you work every single day to break through the same old Washington gridlock like I do, you get things done. So with the Senate about to go back into session today, I want to take a moment to reflect back on what we accomplished over the past year.
Let’s start with the big wins. We passed the Inflation Reduction Act , a monumental investment in the fight against climate change and a never-before-seen step to lower the cost of prescription medication. We codified the right to marriage equality, putting protections for gay and interracial marriages into law. I also proudly supported the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act , landmark legislation that addresses the gun violence epidemic. And after leading efforts to pass a historic investment in our nation’s infrastructure the year before, we are now seeing major job-creating investments in public transit and green infrastructure here in Virginia and across the country.
But that’s not all. Here are just a few of the wins for Virginia and our country that we were able to secure under a Democratic majority.
*We passed major reforms to the Electoral Count Act – legislation I’m proud to have helped draft – which introduces stronger protections for our democratic systems and prevents dangerous attempts to overturn the results of an election.
*In the end-of-year spending bill, we helped make important investments in college affordability, affordable housing, childcare, and Medicare coverage for mental health services.
*We helped free 4,000 beagles who were being abused at a facility in Cumberland, Va.
*We passed legislation I wrote to help Americans who have been saddled with consolidated student loan debt belonging to an ex-spouse.
*We expanded VA health care coverage for thousands of Veterans who were exposed to toxins through their service.
*We passed my bill to invest in American-made semiconductors, creating jobs and reducing our reliance on China.
*And we secured a raise for our troops and DoD civilian workers.
Now, as the new congressional session kicks off today, I’m already looking ahead to our next battles. We have work to do to hold tech companies accountable, strengthen our economy, and protect voting and reproductive rights. We also have legislative elections to win in Virginia, and much more.
Will you pitch in $5 right now to start 2023 off on the right foot?

I’m not slowing down any time soon. Last year was just a sneak peek of the progress we can make for our country when we break through the gridlock.
Let’s keep this momentum going. Pitch in $5 to help us keep making history for the commonwealth and our country.
