Hi, my name is Varshini Prakash. I'm one of the co-founders of Sunrise – a movement of young people fighting to combat climate change and create millions of good jobs with a Green New Deal.

The climate crisis isn't 30 or 40 or 50 years in the future. It is right now. And we need a president who understands the immediate threat of that crisis.

That person is Bernie Sanders.

Sunrise recently endorsed Bernie Sanders for president because he has proven again and again that he understands the scope of the climate crisis. He understands the severity. He understands that it is not simply an environmental issue. It is also a social justice issue. It's about racial and economic justice. It is about the fight of our lives.

A Green New Deal can only be achieved by building and sustaining a movement of millions of people of all walks of life and from all corners of the country. That is the movement we must build together, which is why I am asking you today:

Can you add your name to say you support a Green New Deal? We need nothing short of a political revolution in order to fight the climate crisis.

Bernie knows that this isn't just about a conversation happening in Washington. This is about changing the lives of millions of working people across this country for the better – whether it's farmers in Iowa, people living in Cancer Alley in Louisiana, or people fleeing from sea level rise in Miami. He understands that this is a crisis and it's time to act now.

The Green New Deal is a governing agenda and new social contract for the 21st century that says that no matter who you are, where you were born, or the color of your skin, you have a right to clean air and water, healthy food, housing, health care, education, a good job, and a livable future.

Bernie's Green New Deal is the boldest plan out there, and his plan would:

- Transform our energy system to 100 percent renewable energy and create 20 million jobs that will save our future and our planet.

- Commit to reducing emissions throughout the world, including investing in the Green Climate Fund, rejoining the Paris Agreement, and reasserting the United States’ leadership in the global fight against climate change.

- End the greed of the fossil fuel industry and hold them accountable.

- Advance social, racial, and economic justice by lifting up the communities that endure the worst consequences of the climate crisis and an unfair economy that benefits the wealthy.

- Ensure a livable planet for my generation and all future generations with unprecedented investments to address our climate emergency.
Electing Bernie Sanders as our next president is one critical part of the equation to launching the biggest, boldest plan for a federal government led mobilization against the climate crisis.

But the truth is that we can't enact a Green New Deal and a political revolution just because of one man or one moment. It has to be the sustained effort of millions of people to change the political tide in this country.
