Inflation has been at or above 5% for 20 straight months according to newly released Consumer Price Index data.
Remember how Biden’s “Recovery Act” with its $1.9 trillion tab was going to stimulate the economy? Well to quote the lovable Emily Litella:
In reality, real wages have fallen nearly every month since that debt bomb bill passed.
Inflation has mercifully fallen from 9% last summer to 6.5% now. But food and energy – goods Americans need to buy – are up 10.4% and nearly 20% respectively. Even if inflation continues to fall - as we expect - the damage to families has already been done.
The chart below based on the latest government stats show real wages have been negative ever since Biden passed his $1.9 trillion stimulus, 21 months ago. Notice that under Trump and the three months before Biden came into office, wages were rising by 4%.
We’ve noted in recent months that the green energy lobby has collided with a brick wall of local protests against Big Wind and Big Solar coming to their towns.
Now we have some hard numbers from energy expert Robert Bryce to confirm that. Bryce keeps a database of local and state restrictions on wind and solar projects.
Bryce reports that in 2022 alone 80 solar energy projects were rejected from states ranging from Ohio to Maine to New York.
Meanwhile, Bryce finds that more than 300 communities have rejected wind farms since 2015.
Bryce calls this a “growing rural voter backlash” against green energy industrial projects. The irony of all of this is that the left created the NIMBY (not in my backyard) to stop development projects, and now they’re being foiled by their own devices.
The New York Times, NPR, and others retaliate by saying these conscientious objectors are front groups funded by the Koch network or Big Oil. But, Bryce notes, there is no evidence to confirm these allegations.
Progressives exploded when Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema shared a high-five with Sen Joe Manchin during a panel at the Uber-elite Davos conference this week celebrating their successful opposition to eliminating the Senate filibuster.
“We still don’t agree [with other Senate Democrats] on getting rid of the filibuster, correct?” Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, asked Sinema. “That’s correct,” she said, initiating a high-five with Manchin.
“Joe and I were not interested in sacrificing that important guardrail,” she told the Davos audience.
Yes, a guardrail that protects the rights of minorities – which is a governing principle liberals once believed in.
Rather than engage her arguments, progressive bloggers compared Sinema to a comic-book villain out of “Batman” while sneering at her clothing choices. Gee, we thought these were feminists who never condone shaming.
4) It Depends On What Your Definition Of “Insurrection” Is
Your editors have friends and colleagues who protested peacefully on January 6th and never entered the Capitol – but were arrested and jailed nonetheless for merely exercising their First Amendment rights. You probably know of some of these horrific injustices. Jail for many months. No trial. No bail. In some cases, these political prisoners (to repeat: we are talking about the folk who didn’t illegally enter the Capitol) were placed in solitary confinement.
What makes this assault on their basic liberties especially appalling is that our liberal friends have apparently forgotten about the OTHER Insurrectionists in Washington – which of course were the Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA rioters and arsonists in front of the White House a few months earlier in the summer of 2020. The photos below may help refresh your memory of the destruction and carnage.
Washington’s Other Insurrection
The Secret Service felt the threat on the White House was so real and imminent that they urgently moved President Trump to a safe spot. Two and a half years later few arrests and no show-trial congressional hearings.
Why? Oh, yes. Now we remember. These were those “mostly peaceful” riots.
Victor Davis Hanson helps explains the hypocrisy laid out in the above item:
One overriding principle of the new Democratic Party is the notion that the Left’s moral superiority earns absolute exemption from the very methods they employ against their opponents.
The historic Mar-a-Lago raid was constructed in bogus fashion as a legitimate search for “nuclear codes.” Yet it would have sparked outrage had the FBI sent armed agents into Jill Biden’s underwear drawers looking for classified papers concerning Ukraine and Iran.
The buffoonish protestors and rioters of January 6 were jailed for months without formal charges, put in solitary confinement, and often sentenced to the maximum punishment possible. But the rioters, shooters, and killers of 120 days of mayhem and violence during summer 2020 were calibrated as “summer of love” rowdies. Antifa and Black Lives Matter sort of, kind of got a little bit out of hand in torching a police precinct, a federal courthouse, and an iconic Washington, D.C. church, as well as trying to storm the White House grounds, sending the president into an underground bunker.
That Antifa and BLM plotted much of their anarchy and violence on social media unimpeded. That fact mattered not at all in comparison to the illegal paraders and rioters of January 6. Police who shoot unarmed protestors usually have their identities immediately revealed; yet when they lethally shoot the likes of an Ashli Babbitt, their identities are suppressed, and their questionable conduct lauded.
