CNN's Tuesday presidential debate was a "tedious, interminable, frivolous fiasco of irrelevance”

Dear Friend,

CNN has always been a prime example of the pernicious corporate media bias that infects our democracy.

But at Tuesday night's Democratic Party debate, CNN's moderators were truly beyond the pale.

They ignored substantive policy questions to push petty personal controversies between the candidates. Every issue was framed from a right-wing point of view. They were so biased against progressives that the audience couldn’t help but laugh.

This debate was like a 3-hour advertisement for why the independent, nonprofit journalism of Common Dreams is so needed in today’s media landscape. But the only way we can keep providing that counterbalance to the CNNs of the world is with your help.

Rolling Stone contributing editor Matt Taibbi described the moderators' performance as “unusually vile.”

They flat-out asserted that it’s wrong to oppose Trump's climate-killing trade deal with Canada and Mexico. They claimed that Medicare for All would bankrupt the country and referred to it as “political suicide.”

Their right-wing framing on foreign policy was as bad or worse. They ignored entirely the costs of our never-ending wars and compared Bernie Sanders to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

It got so bad that "#CNNisFox" was trending on Twitter.

The only antidote to CNN’s corporate media bias is the independent, nonprofit journalism of Common Dreams. Will you donate to help support our newsroom throughout this all-important presidential election cycle?

Thank you for all you do,
