March for Life Yields Thousands of Participants as White House Discusses Codifying Roe v Wade

Washington Times: Thousands of jubilant pro-life activists joined the first March for Life since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, pledging to take their fight against abortion to federal and state legislatures. Protesters at the 50th annual rally and march, which is held around the Jan. 22, 1973, anniversary of the Roe decision that legalized abortion nationwide, walked to Congress instead of the Supreme Court for the first time to show support for federal laws restricting abortion (Washington Times). March for Life: Check out the timelapse of the first March for Life in a #PostRoeAmerica (Twitter)! Townhall: Just as then White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki did for last year’s March for Life, her successor, Karine Jean-Pierre promoted President Joe Biden’s legislative priority of “making sure that it’s–it becomes law,” referring to Roe v. Wade. The narrative has been to claim that this would merely “codify” Roe,  though the legislation in question, the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), would radically expand Roe. Under the WHPA, abortion would be legal until the moment of birth in all 50 states without any restrictions (Townhall).

Democrats Rush to Label Monterey Park Shooting Racially Motivated
Wall Street Journal: Police on Sunday were searching for a gunman after at least 10 people were killed in a mass shooting in Monterey Park, Calif., east of Los Angeles, late Saturday. At least 10 others were taken to hospitals with injuries, some in critical condition. The shooting occurred around 10:22 p.m. at a ballroom dance facility. Monterey Park is a city of about 61,000 people with a large Asian-American population, and the evening’s Lunar New Year festivities were scheduled to end at 9 p.m (Wall Street Journal). RedState: Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna stated that investigators have received different descriptions of the perpetrator, preventing them from providing a specific description, but that the suspect is a “male Asian” with a probable age range of 30 to 50 (Twitter). Andy Ngo: Democrats focused on the mass shooting in Monterey Park, Calif. hoping that it was racially motivated (it’s not) while ignoring the violent attempted uprising last night in Atlanta where #Antifa & far-left extremists came equipped with explosives to overthrow the city’s police (Twitter).

Antifa Stages Violent Protest in Atlanta
Washington Examiner: Police arrested six protesters who turned violent in downtown Atlanta late Saturday night, setting a police car on fire and smashing windows of local businesses. Independent journalist Andy Ngo identified one of the arrested suspects as Francis Carroll, an Antifa activist who was “out on bail for domestic terrorism” and allegedly “the son of a multi-millionaire Maine family” (Washington Examiner). Ian Miles Cheong: Antifa messed around with cops in Atlanta. Antifa found out (Twitter). New York Post: The mayhem comes after Manuel Esteban Paez Teran was shot and killed by Georgia State Patrol troopers who were trying to clear protesters camping near the site of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center — dubbed “Cop City.” Paez had allegedly shot and wounded an officer, officials said (New York Post). Libs of TikTok: CNN’s guest suggests we shouldn’t use the word “violent” to describe the Antifa riots in Atlanta tonight. Antifa is currently destroying buildings and setting police cars on fire  (Twitter).

Biden, McCarthy Negotiate Debt Limit
Katie Pavlich: This week the United States hit the debt limit, yet again, bringing the running total to more than $31 trillion. As a result, the White House is demanding House Republicans get onboard with raising the debt limit without preconditions. On Friday night, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed negotiations are underway (Townhall). Kevin McCarthy: President Biden: I accept your invitation to sit down and discuss a responsible debt ceiling increase to address irresponsible government spending. I look forward to our meeting (Twitter). Axios: McCarthy is taking a hard line on slashing government spending in exchange for raising the debt limit amid pressure from his right flank — cuts that the White House maintains are non-negotiable (Axios).

Fox News: White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain is expected to step down after serving President Biden for two years, according to multiple reports. Klain’s impending resignation is the most significant departure of a key power player in the Biden White House since the president took office in 2021 (Fox News). Chicago’s Lori Lightfoot Says Crime Spree is Due to People Carrying Cash
Townhall: Chicago’s crime rate has skyrocketed under Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s wing, making the city one of the most dangerous places in the U.S.  However, rather than rethinking her soft-on-crime policies, Lightfoot blames the crisis on everything else. Earlier this week, Lightfoot suggested street vendors stop using cash to stem Chicago’s crime problem (Townhall). Citizen Free Press: Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s “concrete solution” to solve crime in Chicago: “Make sure that their money is secure, not use (cash) if at all possible, use other forms of transactions to take care of themselves” (Twitter). Nan Hayworth: Yes, of course, make the VICTIMS change their behavior. If you want your civic leaders instead to do something about the criminals, you need to elect Republicans. Lori Lightfoot Claims Carrying Cash Is the Reason For Crime Epidemic (Twitter).

Nike Closes Flagship Store in Seattle Citing Crime
Daily Mail: Crime-ridden Seattle has lost its downtown Nike flagship store and multiplex movie theater as crime runs rampant and the number of homeless people dying soars. The Rain City’s downtown area suffered its latest blow on Friday when the popular Nike store, located at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pike Street, shut its doors for good. Nike’s exit came right after Regal Cinemas announced it would reject the lease of the Meridian 16 multiplex located on Seventh Avenue and Pike Street (Daily Mail). Fox News: Seattle has been dealing with a violent crime spike in recent years, including a 23% increase in fatal shootings in 2022. The city is also contending with issues of homelessness, drug use and cratering foot traffic stemming from the pandemic (Fox News).

Larry Elder, Charlie Kirk Sound Off on San Francisco Reparations Plan
Fox News: Conservative TV and radio host Larry Elder on Thursday took aim at a new proposal by San Francisco’s reparations committee to pay each Black longtime residents $5 million – while warning that the movement in support of reparations is growing as young people are being “indoctrinated” into its supporting narrative. Elder told Fox News Digital, “Young woke people are being indoctrinated into believing that systemic racism, structural racism, historical racism is why black people are underachieving” (Fox News). Charlie Kirk: They want a guaranteed minimum income for every black of $97,000 a year. They want those payments to last for the next 250 years. This is not some sort of abstract college essay. No. This is an actual policy recommendation done by the San Francisco government (Daybreak Daily).

Illinois Judge Briefly Halts Gun Control Bill Amid Republican Pushback
National Review: An Illinois judge on Friday temporarily blocked the state from enforcing a new ban on so-called assault weapons against roughly 800 plaintiffs who filed a lawsuit challenging the measure. The Protect Illinois Communities Act prohibits the sale, distribution, and possession of semiautomatic rifles such as the AR-15 and grants local law-enforcement authorities the power to add additional firearm bans in the future. The law, which was signed by Governor J. B. Pritzker earlier this month, also requires owners of now-restricted weapons to register with the state police (National Review). Townhall: The comes after former Republican candidate for attorney general Tom DeVore sued to block the law, calling it an “outright attack on the constitutional rights of lawful gun owners across the state” (Townhall).

Biden Administration Blames Republicans for Record Immigration Numbers
Daily Wire: President Joe Biden’s administration blamed Republicans for a historically bad month of illegal immigration on the U.S.-Mexico border last month, despite Democrats controlling the entire federal government and both chambers of Congress up until a few weeks ago. The administration broke the all-time record for the number of illegal aliens encountered on the U.S.-Mexico border last month (Daily Wire). Fox News: “Of course the numbers will be higher when Republican elected officials, like smugglers, falsely proclaim the border is open because of a court order to lift Title 42,” an administration official told Fox News (Fox News).
