“For too long, the shipping industry has flown under the radar when it comes to
noise and other pollution streams,” said Marcie Keever, Oceans & Vessels Program
Director at Friends of the Earth. “These new measures will give Southern
Resident orcas and other marine mammals a better chance of survival in the
Pacific Northwest.”

BREAKING: President Biden has recently signed a massive spending bill that will
help PROTECT endangered Southern Resident orcas!

I’m beyond thrilled to share this exciting victory with you, Friend. With your support and advocacy, we have just seen the passage of
the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) -- legislation that includes several key provisions to help reduce ship noise
and vessel strikes and protect the iconic Southern Resident killer whale and
other marine animals of the Pacific Northwest.

This wouldn’t have been possible without you stepping up and using your voice to
demand protections for these iconic whales. Environmentalists like you are
instrumental in our efforts to demand stronger ocean and species protections
from the federal government and hold corporations accountable for their
environmental destruction and ocean pollution. Thank you for your action -- it has had a powerful impact.

While this is a huge first step, there is still so much more work to be done if
we’re going to save Southern Resident killer whales -- and we can’t back down
now. The fight isn’t over, and we urgently need your continued support while
momentum is on our side.

Right now, two corporate megaprojects could soon WIPE OUT the last 73 Southern
Resident orcas remaining.

Scientists agree that the massive ships from the Roberts Bank T2 container terminal project will disrupt the migration patterns of Chinook salmon, the main food source of
Southern Resident orcas, causing severe MALNUTRITION AND STARVATION. And the expansion of the dirty Trans Mountain pipeline would transport MILLIONS of barrels of TOXIC dirty tar sands oil through Pacific Northwest waters while these endangered orcas are potentially ONE oil spill away from being wiped out.

Time is running out, but we still have the chance to STOP Big Oil and the
shipping industry from pushing these beloved orcas closer to EXTINCTION -- but
only if we act immediately. Can these endangered whales still count on you,
Friend? Add your name now to help protect them before
it’s too late >>
