John,
I was born in a world before Roe v. Wade, but I spent (almost) the entirety of my adult life knowing my constitutional, fundamental, right to decide whether and when to have children was guaranteed.
And so, today's anniversary of the Roe decision serves as an urgent reminder that the fight for access to reproductive health care and abortion rights is far from over.
Last year, when the Supreme Court overturned Roe, folks in our movement took to the streets in unprecedented numbers. We sent the Supreme Court Justices and their supporters a clear message: we're taking our rights back. We made abortion rights the defining issue of campaigns everywhere, and anti-choice extremists lost competitive seats across the country.
Chip in $3 now to help me make sure I can hold this seat in order to continue to fight for reproductive freedom.
With a narrow majority in the House, one of Kevin McCarthy's first orders of business was to ignore the ¾ of Americans who believe abortion should be a personal decision between a patient and their health care provider. After vowing to respect states rights on abortion access, they quickly rammed through not one, but two radical restrictions on abortions.
For decades, anti-choice extremists mounted a relentless assault on abortion rights and access to reproductive health care. They cheated their way onto the Supreme Court, and gerrymandered Congress to guarantee that anti-choice Republicans control Congress.
But they aren't unstoppable, John.
Despite their best efforts, anti-choice Republicans only captured a narrow majority in the House. And because of your support, I was able to become the first woman and mother to represent the 4th Congressional District. Voters in the 4th Congressional District saw through my MAGA Republican opponent's lies about being willing to "protect women's health care". He would have voted with Kevin McCarthy and you can be sure that the GOP is already recruiting someone to run against me and back McCarthy's extreme agenda in 2024.
Without control over when or if you get pregnant, a woman cannot control her economic future and if that's not a freedom worth fighting for, I don't know what is.
And when we fight, we win. Chip in $3 now and help me stay in the fight for abortion rights. For as long as it takes.
All the best
Val
