# [#]Today is the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
As we remember the legacy and importance of Roe for millions of Americans, I want to make one thing clear: access to abortion is a fundamental right, and it’s not going anywhere in Washington.
Washington State codified a woman’s right to abortion care by passing the Reproductive Privacy Act in 1991. As long as I serve in public office, I will fight to defend Washingtonians' legal and fundamental right to make their own health care decisions.
I’ve compiled a team in my office that monitors this issue closely to make sure we are prepared for whatever comes next. For example, last year, I joined a coalition of attorneys general to support the DOJ’s lawsuit against Idaho's near-total abortion ban. The ban was so extreme that it violated the federal law that requires physicians to perform life-saving, medically necessary care. We won, and a federal judge blocked the ban.
As we reflect on the 50th anniversary of Roe , I commit to you that I will always be an advocate for reproductive freedom here in Washington.
Thank you for standing with me,
Bob
