John,
We woke up to tragedy again this morning: Ten people were killed with ten more injured in a mass shooting in Monterey Park, CA, late last night.
This horrific tragedy took place at a dance studio that is a staple of the community, yet another example of a community safehaven marred by gun violence. It’s a devastating reminder that no place is safe from America’s gun violence epidemic.
Monterey Park should be celebrating the Lunar New Year today, when vibrant colors and joy fill the streets and dancers in costume perform to usher in good fortune for the upcoming year. Instead, celebrations have been canceled and the community is grieving the kind of tragedy and loss that has become the norm in our country.
This harsh reality can make us feel numb, but in times like these we must stand together to demand action from Congress. Can I count on you to sign our urgent petition NOW. >> [[link removed]]
There have already been 33 mass shootings in the United States after only three weeks of 2023. The mass shooting last night is the worst since 22 children were killed in Uvalde, TX, last May. We live in a country where we continually wake up to awful news of more lives lost to gun violence, finding ourselves here again: A celebration robbed of joy, a community changed forever, and a nation continuing to ask, “when will it be enough?”
We’ve pleaded with Congress to do something to end this epidemic countless times, but they continue to fail us. So many lives have been lost to gun violence because our lawmakers don’t have the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and pass common sense legislation. We must honor the victims and survivors in Monterey Park with action and fight to stop the next tragedy.
I am counting on our committed grassroots supporters to speak out today. Will you sign our urgent petition to demand that Congress finally take action to end our country’s gun violence epidemic? [[link removed]]
This doesn’t have to be the norm, John, but these heinous tragedies will continue if we wait idly by longer. Our collective voice can be the impetus for change, and your support couldn’t be more important in this moment – I know you’ll set up. Thank you for honoring the Monterey Park community with action.
