Roe v. Wade – a landmark decision that ruled in favor of women's health and bodily autonomy – was decided by the Supreme Court 50 years ago today.
But last year, the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade effectively upended years of progress at the hands of far-right judges. Already, the narrow Republican House majority has passed two laws to further their anti-choice agenda.
Team: reproductive care is health care. No lawmaker or judge should be allowed to weigh in on women’s personal health care decisions. People all across the nation have been relying on Roe's legal protections for decades.
But now that those long-held protections are no more, millions of Americans are living in states where seeking life-saving reproductive care is a felony punishable by up to life in prison. Meanwhile, other states – like Georgia and Ohio – have extremely restrictive limits on when a woman can legally access care.
We need to remain vigilant in opposing proposals that would limit care options for women or could threaten people's health and lives.
I will continue to stand alongside the majority of Americans who firmly believe that access to reproductive health care is a fundamental right and is a decision that should be left between a woman and her doctor.
