Dear John,
Today marks 50 years since the U.S. Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade, but today also marks almost 6 months since the Court reversed decades of settled law that gave Americans the right to access abortion care through their ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson.
The decision to reverse Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey was a grave mistake that was wrong on principle and on the merits, and in the past six months we have seen the serious and harmful consequences.
Here in Maine, we’re fortunate that our laws protect access to abortions. Today’s anniversary reminds us just how important it is to elect leaders who will safeguard a woman’s right to make private decisions about her body. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to find a legislative path forward to codify the right to reproductive freedom for all Americans.
