Fifty years ago today, the Supreme Court ruled that every American has the right to choose. The Constitution of the United States grants us that fundamental right, and on this day in 1973, Roe v. Wade affirmed it. Sadly, the far-right Supreme Court has stripped that choice from millions of Americans. They’ve rolled progress back fifty years. For now, Coloradans are safe from the right-wing assault on our civil liberties, but not every American is so fortunate. For pregnant women from Texas to Wisconsin, and our neighbors in Utah and Kansas, basic reproductive care is banned or almost entirely inaccessible today. And many of my Republican colleagues in the Senate want to go even further. They want a federal law to ban abortion nationwide — including right here in Colorado. Not on our watch.
