Today marks the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But as we know, the extreme, conservative majority on the Supreme Court overturned the historic decision, reversing our freedoms and putting the health of millions of women across the country at risk.

It’s now up to all of us to protect women’s autonomy, health, freedoms, and privacy.

We saw this coming for decades as anti-choice lawmakers passed hundreds of restrictions to reproductive care. As a woman, a mother, and a lawyer, it’s still hard for me to wrap my head around it.

I can’t believe that in 2023, I have to use my position to protect access to reproductive care, the right to travel for that care, and access to contraception. Unfortunately, as Justice Thomas’s opinion made clear, that is exactly what I need to do in Congress now.

New Jersey was one of the first states in the country to codify Roe. The majority of New Jerseyans support reproductive rights, and so do the majority of Americans. I refuse to let Republican politicians in Washington allow my daughters to grow up with fewer rights than my sons.

I will always stand up for Americans’ freedoms. I will always fight back when others try to take those rights away. And most importantly, I know you will join me in this fight.
