Today marks the 50 year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision.
A few years ago, most of us wouldn’t have believed that the constitutional right to an abortion wouldn’t still be here. And I’m sure you remember the shock and sadness the majority of Americans felt last June when the Supreme Court decided to revoke our rights.
It still amazes me that my kids now have fewer rights than I did growing up.
Now, it’s time to take action—to restore the nationwide right to an abortion and to ensure the Supreme Court does not encroach any further on our rights.
In the Senate, I’d be an advocate for revoking the filibuster and codifying the right to an abortion into law. But that’s the bare minimum. For years, Republican politicians at every level of government have worked to diminish abortion access, forcing women to travel long distances and across state lines. We need to stand up to their attempts to control our futures.
When I was out talking with voters this fall, I heard a lot of Californians tell me “well abortion will never be illegal here.” Let me remind you of the facts: If Republicans control Congress and the White House, they have said they will ban abortion nationwide.
For abortion access, every single election and every single seat matters. I’m running for the Senate because I’m unafraid to stand up to extremists who try to take away our rights.
