On what would have been the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the right to safe, legal abortion has been gutted.
Since the June Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, tens of millions of Americans have lost access to abortion care because of the Republicans' war on reproductive freedom. In Pennsylvania, abortion access was only protected because we elected a Democratic Governor who can veto GOP state lawmakers' extreme ban on abortions.

Currently, 24 states have banned abortion or are likely to do so. This impact falls disproportionately on poor, Black, Brown, and working people who already lacked access to care. And now, right-wing extremists are pushing for increased criminalization and surveillance of patients, doctors, and families of those seeking access to critical reproductive health care.
This cannot be our new normal. We will not let our bodies and health care be criminalized by a group of Republican legislators and judges.
We must secure and expand abortion access and prioritize care for communities that need it most so we can reach true reproductive justice for all. That starts with codifying the right to abortion into law and repealing discriminatory laws like the Hyde Amendment and ending the criminalization of abortion at the federal level. It means ensuring everyone has the care they need — when they need it — and not letting a filibuster or unelected judges appointed to lifetime seats stand in our way.
Summer understands and has been fighting for these policies for reproductive justice and freedom for years. And as Congresswoman for PA-12, she is working to pass legislation like the Women's Health Protection Act and the EACH Act and address inequities that disproportionately impact Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and low-income communities.
