Friend —
Today marks 50 years since Roe v. Wade was decided, protecting the fundamental right to an abortion.
This anniversary takes on added weight, as just a few months ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe — the result of a decades-long war waged by Republicans to control women and our healthcare decisions.
Last summer’s decision has created an uncertain future for women everywhere. Abortion remains legal in North Carolina, but states across the country have been emboldened to enact abortion bans, putting the health and safety of millions at risk.
I have been fighting for reproductive freedom for decades — from demanding insurance providers cover birth control in the 90s, to opposing every single law restricting abortion access in our state legislature. Now, that fight continues in Congress.
We need to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law. I voted to do so in the House, but last year, that legislation stalled in the Senate.
I cannot — and will not — back down from this fight. So today, as we mark the 50th anniversary of Roe, I hope you’ll join me in demanding Congress pass legislation protecting reproductive freedom under federal law. [[link removed]]

A majority of Americans support Roe. A majority of us believe that health care decisions should be made between a patient and their doctor. Now, it’s up to us to keep it that way.
Thank you for raising your voice alongside mine today.
