Here’s where we are in the fight for abortion access.
Friend,
On this day in 1973, the United States Supreme Court guaranteed the right to a safe and legal abortion federally through its ruling in Roe v. Wade. Now, 50 years later, that federal right has been stripped from people across this country after the Supreme Court’s ruling this past summer in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
The Dobbs ruling significantly shifted the future of abortion access to the states by removing constitutional protections. Republican politicians have made clear they will use this power to control people’s bodies and pass and implement devastatingly restrictive laws and completely ban abortion access on a state by state basis. That’s why, in 2022, Democratic AGs doubled down on their efforts to protect reproductive freedom:
Michigan AG Dana Nessel refused to enforce her state's 1931 abortion ban and advocated to enshrine abortion access into the state constitution.
Arizona AG Kris Mayes defeated an anti-abortion extremist and has made clear she would refuse to prosecute patients and providers over abortion.
Wisconsin AG Josh Kaul filed a lawsuit challenging his state’s near-total 1849 abortion ban.
Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and we can't stop now – will you chip in today?
