Friend, 50 years ago today, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in the landmark Roe v. Wade case. It granted millions of American women the fundamental right to make health care decisions with their doctors, to access the women's health care they need and to choose their own futures.

But last June, six ultraconservative Supreme Court justices rolled back decades of progress with the stroke of a pen. Overnight, those reproductive freedoms that Americans have counted on for generations were stripped away. Today, more than a dozen states have outlawed abortion – and, even as you read this email, Republican legislators are pushing increasingly extreme bans to further undermine reproductive rights.

I'm heartbroken that today’s generation has fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers. But as a U.S. senator, I'm more determined than ever to win this fight for women’s rights. It's up to us to build on the success of this past election, rejecting the GOP's efforts to push our country backward. Together we can restore reproductive rights and the right for women to make their own health care decisions with their doctors. We've all got a role to play in this fight, and as chair of the DSCC, I have to make sure that we defend the Senate majority that we won by the smallest margins. This is the only way to ensure that we can stop the GOP's push to ban abortion nationwide.

That's why I've launched a $25,000 Defend Reproductive Rights Grassroots Goal. I'm counting on your support here, friend, so please, can you rush $5 before our midnight deadline? We're up against powerful forces, and we'll only win if we all stand together.

I've seen firsthand how dangerous it is when politics comes between a patient and a doctor. When my first wife and I lost a baby that we dearly wanted, we were heartbroken. Initially being denied a medically necessary abortion created so much additional trauma and pain during what was already a time of intense mental anguish.

But here's the thing, friend: Our story is just one of so many across this country. And in the months since the Supreme Court's dangerous ruling, millions of Americans have already had their bodily autonomy and this deeply personal decision taken away from them.

I refuse to sit by and watch this happen. If you're with me, can I count on your donation today so that we can defend our Senate majority and build momentum toward passing legislation to guarantee the right to abortion under federal law?

I know this is a difficult day. Thank you for continuing to fight with me.

With warmth and gratitude,

Gary Peters
