Abortion care is a fundamental human right. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, and we’re not only fighting to win back the constitutional right to abortion care, but working every day to ensure reproductive justice for every person in America.
In Congress, Ayanna is the Chair of the Pro-Choice Caucus’ Abortion Rights and Access Task Force. She has led the efforts to repeal the racist and discriminatory Hyde Amendment from our annual Federal budgets, and she is a co-lead of the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation to codify the protections embodied in Roe that passed the House — twice — before being blocked by Republicans in the Senate. Ayanna’s advocacy helped secure the recent expansion of access to the medication abortion drug Mifepristone.
In the face of Republicans’ continued efforts to criminalize pregnancy outcomes and abortion care, we must all continue to protest, organize, advocate, and legislate in defense of abortion rights and reproductive justice.
We won't stop fighting until access and safe, compassionate care are a reality for every person in every community across the country.
