Today, we mark 50 years since the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion. It’s also the first year without Roe.
For decades, Roe v. Wade had been under assault from federal policies like the Hyde Amendment that denies insurance coverage of abortion care for millions of women, states enacting extreme abortion restrictions to chip away at Roe, and efforts to pack the courts with anti-choice judges. And seven months ago, the Dobbs decision overturned Roe, setting off a stampede of states imposing restrictions and bans on abortion.
The fall of Roe is a setback, designed to leave people behind and without abortion. But our resolve to liberate abortion access remains strong. For more than five decades, NOW has been fighting for reproductive justice on every front. Our network of grassroots activists across the country helped to make a difference in the midterm elections in 2022—sending a clear message that accessible abortion is a top issue and that millions of voters are on our side. Your special donation today will provide a critical boost to NOW's grassroots movement to protect and defend reproductive rights. |
