This is another low, friend.
The Trump administration has chosen today, Religious Freedom Day, to launch two significant attacks on church-state separation.
- The Trump administration has issued guidance encouraging students to proselytize to their peers, opening the door for religious harassment and bullying. The guidance also inappropriately encourages prayer in many situations from both students and teachers.
- Second, the administration has proposed regulations that roll back rules that protect millions of people who get critical social services at taxpayer-funded religious organizations.
Right now, we are analyzing these developments in real time. We will keep you informed as we learn more.
We need your help today to mount a swift, organization-wide response. Please click here to rush an emergency donation to fund our efforts now.
The guidance released by Education Secretary DeVos emphasizes prayer in public school at every turn, and it shares an important similarity with the rollback of protections for beneficiaries of government-funded social services: they both disproportionately harm LGBTQ people and religious minorities.
As our team analyzes the full ramifications of these attacks, I’m asking for your help to mount a response that can rise to meet them. One that makes full use of AU’s unparalleled expertise and also engages our many coalition partners in fighting back.
Please rush an emergency gift now to help us protect religious freedom from Trump’s Religious Freedom Day attacks (yes – you read that right!).
Thank you for your generosity and support.
