*INDIANA CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF WOMENS RIGHT TO VOTE*

*INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 16, 2020) *Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, legislators, special guests and partner organizations today kicked off the 100-year anniversary of the January 16, 1920, Indiana ratification of the 19th Amendment the womens constitutional right to vote at the Indiana statehouse.
Joining Lt. Governor Crouch were members of the Indiana Womens Suffrage Centennial Commission [ [link removed] ] and the local organizations that were involved in the collaboration: the Indiana Historical Society; the Indiana Historical Bureau; the Indiana Humanities; and the Indianapolis Propylaeum. The Commission was formed by House Enrolled Act No. 1394 [ [link removed] ] in July 2019, and encourages local communities and organizations across Indianas 92 counties to commemorate the centennial anniversary of womens right to vote in their own way as well.
Today is such an important day, honoring the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote, said Lt. Governor Crouch. Women have such a powerful collective voice and its especially important in this election year that we honor that right with a wonderful day of festivities, history and many guests to share it with. Im honored to recognize the roles and impact women have made and continue to make in our state and our nation.
The day started with a breakfast for legislators and other Statehouse guests, where the Indiana Suffrage History poster was unveiled. There was also a dedication of a plaque that will honor the Suffragists' original Statehouse office. The Girl Scouts of Central Indiana offered a special pledge and the Capital City Chorus provided a special performance. The Indiana Historical Societys traveling exhibit was also on display and will remain in the Statehouse Rotunda through February 3, 2020.
Historian Dr. Anita Morgan provided an overview titled, The Five Things to Know About Indiana Womens Suffrage History. Dr. Morgan shared extraordinary triumphs and struggles of Indiana women black and white, rich and poor, urban and rural who together sought equal rights with men at the ballot box.
The celebration concluded with guests traveling to the House Gallery for the introduction of a special Resolution honoring the 100th anniversary of the states ratification of the 19th Amendment. This special Resolution took place in the morning at the beginning of the House session and then again in the afternoon in the Senate.
