Exxon’s scientists were as skillful as independent climate experts at predicting the planet-warming climate caused by burning fossil fuels since the late 1970s, new academic research shows.

But they did nothing to address it. Instead, they hid this information and continued to spend billions of dollars finding, extracting, and burning fossil fuels and millions more to make sure no elected leaders would hold them accountable.

The company’s own climate research dates back decades, and evidence shows their dire predictions were as accurate as independent models from climate scientists. We’ve now learned so much more about the threat posed by burning fossil fuels, and even more about how committed the industry is to burning every last drop of fossil fuels to line their pockets.
