John, it’s time for Harrisburg to get real about our real minimum wage crisis:

Philadelphia's 'real minimum wage' is among the worst in the U.S. -- The Philadelphia Inquirer

Philadelphia has been at the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 since it was raised just ten cents in 2009. Adjusted for the cost of living to the “real minimum wage,” that comes out to $6.69, making it the fourth worst city in the nation. And Philadelphia isn’t alone in this. Our Commonwealth hasn’t raised the minimum wage in over a decade, with all of the surrounding states far above $7.25 – like New Jersey just raising it to $14.13 this year.

Pennsylvanians deserve a living wage, not just the minimum. Our youth, immigrants, Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color especially know this all too well, and it is time we win a living wage that works for all Pennsylvanians. Will you pitch in $10 today to help us empower the voices of those who have suffered under this crisis for far too long?

Where other cities have established citywide minimum wages to tackle such crises, state law actually prevents Philly from taking action, leaving its citizens up to the mercy of the politicians in Harrisburg.

Despite repeated efforts to raise the minimum wage, the PA GOP continues to push back against any efforts. That is why it is so important that we continue expanding our voter outreach so we can win over Republican seats in every election to come.

Pennsylvanians deserve so much more than what the PA GOP has been giving. It is time to make a stance against injustice, and it all starts at the polls. Will you donate $10 right now to help us expand the electorate and make their voices count?

In solidarity,

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in underrepresented immigrant communities and communities of color. We register communities to vote, provide civic education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize Pennsylvanians to vote in every election.
