Friends,
This is a longer update than I usually send you, but please bear with me as I believe this is one of the more important emails I will send.
Yesterday, the House brought impeachment articles to the Senate. Soon, my colleagues and I will be sworn in as jurors. The trial will begin next Tuesday, January 21st.
There is still debate about whether witnesses will be allowed. It is looking more and more like there will be a bipartisan call for witnesses – many of you have been joining the growing chorus calling for "Impartial Justice" and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle are hearing your message. We all know how important it is to have the full, complete truth. Impartial justice is not partisan and is our Constitutional duty. Please keep it up.
Many of you have asked me for my thoughts as the trial progresses. I am going to try to give periodic video updates about my thoughts on the day's proceedings without spin or any political campaigning.
Many have also asked what this means for my re-election campaign. This trial will have my full and complete attention. Remember, while I am doing my duty the candidates seeking the nomination against me are going to stay on the attack.
That is why I am asking you now to contribute to my campaign – I’m counting on your support now. Will you please make a contribution and make sure we can win re-election in November? [[link removed]]
I can’t tell you how important your help will be over the next few weeks. While I likely won’t be doing fundraising events or campaigning myself, Joe Trippi, Doug Turner, and my campaign team will keep you updated and make appeals for your help when it’s needed. If you are able, I need you to have my back and help when they ask.
I have been a lawyer for over forty years now – and as a former U.S. Attorney, I know that every trial is a pursuit of truth. Our country deserves nothing less.
Thank you for your support and your messages. Please feel free to reach out if you have thoughts, questions, or ideas. I always want to hear from you.
