Make a plan to vote.
Friend –
The Wisconsin Supreme Court is the most powerful judicial body in our state, and whoever is elected to serve as our next justice will have a monumental impact on our civil rights and civil liberties.
Four candidates will be on the ballot in the February 21 primary: Jennifer Dorow, Daniel Kelly, Everett Mitchell, and Janet Protasiewicz. Two will advance to the general election on Tuesday, April 4.
The winner will preside over the state's most pressing constitutional questions – cases involving reproductive freedom, voting rights, LGBTQ+ equality, criminal justice, and more. Get to know the candidates running. <[link removed]> Please note: This link will take you to a third-party website, wisconsinvote.org.
In 2022, the entire country learned just how greatly courts can change our lives. We all watched in horror as the United States Supreme Court shredded Americans' constitutional right to get an abortion and control their own bodies.
While we aren't able to vote for U.S. Supreme Court justices, Wisconsinites can decide who our state Supreme Court justices are. So, if stopping voter suppression, protecting democracy, ending extreme partisan gerrymandering, instituting a fair redistricting process, and expanding rights for marginalized communities are important to you, you should care about this election.
Election deadlines always sneak up on us sooner than we expect, so get out ahead of it and make a voting plan right away. The upcoming supreme court elections will have massive consequences for the future of our state. Get out and vote in the Tuesday, February 21, primary and in the Tuesday, April 4, general election, and encourage the people in your life to do the same!
Sincerely,
The ACLU of Wisconsin Team
