Over the past month, after a period of historic drought, California has been pummeled nearly nonstop with rain — triggering more than 500 mudslides and deadly flooding across the state.
Last year, we passed the Inflation Reduction Act – making critical investments to reduce emissions and make our infrastructure more resilient to extreme weather. But still, we need to keep pushing to pass more legislation that will tackle the root causes of extreme weather and end the climate crisis.
But right now, a significant number of Republicans in Congress do not accept climate science and refuse to take legislative action to protect the future of our planet. Younger generations of Americans are the ones who are going to have to live with the consequences of climate change. As the main caucus committed to advocating for Millennials and Gen Z, we have an obligation to give voice to those who cannot yet make decisions that could save their future.
