Drug possession is one of the most arrested offenses in the United States. In fact, every 31 seconds someone in this country is arrested for simply possessing drugs.
A drug arrest can create barriers that trap you in a cycle of poverty and lead to higher rates of chronic health issues and substance use disorder. Ending these arrests by decriminalizing the possession of all drugs while building health-centered alternatives is the most important step we can take right now to end the cycle of criminalization that fuels the drug war and the overdose crisis.

Criminalizing drug possession allows law enforcement to arrest, incarcerate, and even “justify” killing people – disproportionately targeting people with low income and people of color. Decriminalizing drugs ends criminal penalties for possession for personal use. And it ends an excuse for law enforcement to harass us.
It’s time to stop wasting millions of dollars criminalizing people for drug use, and reinvest drug enforcement resources into health, harm reduction, treatment, and social services.
One of the greatest ways you can help power this fight is by joining the Reformers Club, with a monthly gift that could be matched $1-for-$1 for an entire year. Please join today! |
