Gov. Justice tests positive for COVID-19 for a second time, continues to recover at home

Gov. Jim Justice tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. It's the second time he's tested positive for the virus.

The Governor, who is fully vaccinated and boosted, is recovering but still experiencing mild symptoms and is isolating at home.

He is being treated by several physicians, including his family physician Dr. Gary Poling, DO, and Dr. Clay Marsh, MD, the State COVID-19 Czar.

Gov. Justice commends House of Delegates for passing bill to cut personal income tax

The Governor’s proposal includes a 50% personal income tax reduction over three years. If passed, the phase-out would begin with a 30% reduction in 2023 and another 10% reduction in the following two years.

The Governor took to Twitter to personally thank members of the House of Delegates for their support of HB 2526.

The bill also sets aside $700 million to establish a Personal Income Tax Reserve Fund that almost equals our current Rainy Day Fund. This insurance policy protects against any shortfalls as we go forward.

Gov. Justice celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day with ceremonial bell ringing

Gov. Justice and the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs hosted a commemoration and celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a unity march and bell-ringing for freedom at the West Virginia State Capitol.

In addition to the march and bell-ringing, the Capital High School Voices in Perfection sang a collection of songs during the ceremony.

Gov. Justice delivers $5 million to Marshall School of Medicine to combat addiction and support recovery opportunities

Gov. Justice delivered a congressionally-matched $5 million check to Marshall School of Medicine in an effort to combat addiction and support new recovery opportunities.

The funds go directly to the University's PROACT ([link removed]) and CORE ([link removed]) programs, which provide comprehensive care for those struggling with substance use disorder. The programs also support people for life after treatment.

Marshall University President Brad D. Smith and School of Medicine Dean Bobby Miller were on hand to accept the money.

Earlier this week, Gov. Justice delivered a congratulatory proclamation to West Virginia head men's basketball coach, Bob Huggins for his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Coach Huggins and Athletic Director Wren Baker were in attendance for the ceremony.

Following the proclamation ceremony with Gov. Justice, the West Virginia men's basketball team went on to beat No. 14 TCU in Morgantown a day later. Athletic Director Wren Baker made sure to give Babydog a shoutout after the victory!

Gov. Justice appoints William K. Marshall as Commissioner of West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation

Gov. Jim Justice announced that he has appointed William “Billy” K. Marshall III as the Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The appointment is effective immediately.

Marshall has had a distinguished career in public service, previously serving as Assistant Commissioner for the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Bureau of Juvenile Services since May 2018.
