Listening Sessions Recap
Friend,
Following five town halls across Wisconsin today, I heard loud and clear we need to get our country back on track. It was a busy day with stops in Rock, Racine, Walworth, Milwaukee, and Kenosha Counties. During today's meetings we discussed topics including rising costs, our nation's spending, crime, the border, dysfunction in Washington, and more.
I'm working to bring down costs, keep our communities safe, and restore accountability and transparency in Washington. For too long, Washington's spending has gone unchecked. This has led to higher costs, and a lack of accountability. I'm eager to get to work and focus on your top priorities.
In case you missed one of the listening sessions, you're always welcome to contact me at one of my offices to share a concern or opinion.
Chairman of the Committee on House Administration
This year, I will have an important new role as I take over as Chairman of the Committee on House Administration. This is an important opportunity to ensure that the voice of the people of Wisconsin is heard in the corridors of Washington. My top priorities on the Committee include ensuring the House is open, secure, and accountable to the American people, and to strengthen Americans trust in our elections.
The Committee on House Administration works on:
- Federal Election Law - to consider proposals to amend federal election law and to monitor congressional elections across the U.S.
- House Operations - Managing daily operations that keep the House of Representatives running smoothly.
- Legislative Branch - Management of the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, Capitol Police, and other service branches within the Capitol.
- Capitol Security - Securing the Capitol Complex for Members, staff, and visitors.
Too many Americans have lost faith in our elections. We need to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. Last year, I served on the Subcommittee on Elections. I look forward to taking what I learned on the Subcommittee into my new role, including how we can promote strong election integrity provisions like voter ID. We must restore faith in our elections.
This Committee will also oversee House operations and security. Over the past several months I have been working to fully reopen the House to ensure any American can come walk the halls of Congress and speak with their Representative. We removed proxy voting, which allowed Members of Congress to not show up to work. Everyone in Wisconsin and across the country shows up to work every day. Congress shouldn't be any different.
I'm eager to simplify and modernize Congress. I will keep you updated on the Committee's work and my work to bring down costs and make our communities safe. As always, please contact my office if you need assistance.
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
