Starting this Sunday, January 22nd, Mothers Against Greg Abbott will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade all week long.

Please join us for one or all of the events we’ve got planned this week:

SUNDAY - 01.22.23

Join Mothers Against Greg Abbott at the Texas Capitol on Sunday, January 22 from noon to 2PM for a sit-in.

All are welcome — We’ll be going back to the basics with picketing & sitting-in. Please bring: signs, plenty of water, and snacks.

Sunday is always a great time to start a good book! In addition to the sit-in in Austin, we've also launched our Activist Bookclub this month. This month, we have two books to choose from:

• You will have an opportunity to meet Robin Marty, author of Handbook for a Post-Roe America in a webinar on Monday, January 23rd (more details on that below).
  

• Or choose Laura Kaplan’s book, The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service.

We picked these two out because we feel they are essential reading in a Post-Roe Texas. Once you finish your copy, let us know if you agree by adding a comment in our Facebook Group!

Then once the weekend is over… we’re kicking off the workweek with TWO incredible webinars for the price of one! All it takes to get you in our Zoom room for our 50 Years of Roe Webinar Series is a $10 donation!

We want to end the week with a few days of true grassroots action — by 🐝🐝🐝 swarming the phone lines at the Texas State House. We’re asking everyone reading this email to please, commit to making one phone call to your elected representatives.

We at Mothers Against Greg Abbott want to send a powerful reminder: we can change things here in Texas; mothers and others like us do incredible (and incredibly hard) things; and folks like us have power too.

Never been part of a team phone-swarming before? We’ve jotted down a few quick steps to help you get started:

Step 1: Who are your elected representatives?
In Texas, we’re all represented by one state Representative and one state Senator. You can find your elected representatives through our 2023 88TH TEXAS LEGE SESSION web portal, here.

Step 2: What should you say when you call?
It’s always important to speak from the heart. But here’s a quick + easy script to use if you need one.

Hello, my name is _____ ______ and my zip code is ______. I am calling [Senator name /Representative name] ___________ because Sunday was the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. As a Texas [pick a word that describes you best - mother/father/grandma/friend/voter/etc.] I’m living in a post-Roe world, and I’m scared for my family and our future. This matters to me greatly because of ____________________, and I’d like to know which bills you’ll be supporting this year in the Legislature that will to help get Texas women’s rights back. Could you let me know? Thanks!

One phone call might not seem like a lot, but the power of collective action lies in what happens when we all do this together. When we all hit up the phone lines, we’ll be making a BIG statement.

…and *BONUS* — when we all call, we’re sending a not-so-subtle reminder to the Texas GOP that the Mothers Are Watching, and we’re holding them accountable!
