Dear Friends,

It was an honor to join tribal communities to celebrate my bill, the Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony (STOP) Act, becoming law! Cherished and sacred objects and artifacts belong to the tribes that know how to revere them - that’s what tribal sovereignty is about.

This law is so important for our Pueblos, tribes, and all Indigenous communities.

Around the District

On Thursday, I met with the staff of the Roswell Head Start Center. As a Head Start baby – I know that early childhood education is one of the most important ways to set up our children for success. That’s why I will always advocate for investments in our educators and youngest students who are the future.

Hearing directly from constituents about their areas of expertise is one of the most important parts of my job. This week, I met with ranchers in Roswell to talk about the upcoming Farm Bill reauthorization in 2023 that will fund agriculture, conservation, nutrition assistance, and many other important agricultural programs.

Our communities take care of each other. It was a pleasure to meet with organizations and constituents from the Roswell area, including the Roswell Rotary Club.

Working for New Mexico

I was excited to be in Santa Fe on the opening day of the New Mexico legislative session! From the Roundhouse to the U.S. House, I’m ready to get good work done for New Mexico in 2023.

Senator Heinrich and I successfully reauthorized the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area for an additional 15 years. Federal support will continue for the communities, traditions, sacred and historic places, and environment that make Northern New Mexico special. Find more information HERE

New Mexicans affected by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire deserve quick and easy access to federal aid. That’s why I joined the New Mexico delegation in writing a letter to urge FEMA to update the wildfire claims process. You can read the letter HERE
