Dear neighbor,
This week I had the honor of visiting several sites in our community for which I secured funding in the annual funding package recently signed into law by President Biden. Over $22 million was designated for our community to support incredible projects that are improving lives. Each of these projects will address important issues in our district, from mental health resources and job training programs for young people to endangered wildlife preservation and climate change mitigation efforts.
On Tuesday, I toured the UCLA Homeless Healthcare Collaborative, which I was pleased to advocate for during the government funding process. This crucial program provides free health care, clothing, hygiene products, and social services to our unhoused neighbors throughout Los Angeles County. UCLA’s mobile health program received $592,000 in federal funding, and I am grateful for the important work they do for our community. This additional funding will allow UCLA Health to purchase and equip two additional mobile clinics and expand its reach to meet the needs of unhoused individuals all over Los Angeles County.
On Thursday, I visited the St. Joseph Center in Venice, which provides job skills training and other supportive services to our neighbors experiencing homelessness. I was pleased to help St. Joseph Center secure $898,000 for this wonderful project. With these federal funds, St. Joseph Center will be able to expand their successful job training programs for vulnerable populations, giving more of our neighbors the tools they need to find and keep a job. I’m thankful for the continued dedication of the St. Joseph Center team and their contribution to our Los Angeles County community.
As always, my first priority as a Member of Congress is addressing the needs of our community. To learn about the other projects in our area that received federal funding this year, click here.
