118th Update: Committee Assignments

This week I was selected to continue to serve on the House Oversight & Accountability Committee and the House Financial Services Committee. Both are considered vital committees for Republicans as we deliver on the agenda that the American people voted for. A renewal of my post in both committees displays a vote of confidence in myself and the experience I bring to the table.  I have the same confidence in my Republican colleagues on the committees and how our agenda will deliver for the American people.

For constituents at home, my work in these committees continues to allow me to push forward our priorities for our way of life in Central and East Texas. Issues we care about, ranging from community banking to updating roadways, are given a more potent voice in my position as the Senior Texan on both committees. Nevertheless, my voice in Congress is ultimately given by the constituents in my district, for whom I am grateful. Thank you.

Cultivating Texas' Next Leaders

Last weekend I drove to the Texas Young Farmer State Convention in Huntsville, Texas. Farmers and ranchers from all over the State of Texas attended. I had the pleasure of meeting many new constituents of Texas 17th Congressional District. Our discussions centered around the current troubles levied by Washington that have made it harder to profit in local business and acquire needed tools to run a farm and ranch operation. The current hard work of these folks helps sustain our nation and communities.

ImageWhile at the convention, I was the keynote speaker during the night's proceedings. I recognized the current disheveled state of America and its effect on our agriculture industry. Rural communities are integral to our nation, and current federal policies burden our way of living. The status quo will only change if young aspiring leaders rise to the forefront of the agriculture industry to make an impact. I love working with community leaders to solve our issues on Capitol Hill. I hope to see them step out with me. Thank you to the Texas Young Farmer State Convention for providing the opportunity to speak. It was an honor!

East Texas: We are Open!

Yesterday, I spent part of my time in Nacogdoches, Texas, and met Stephen F. Austin State University President Steve Westbrook. We initially met at the historic Randall House and then left to visit my new district office just off campus. On-site, President Westbrook and I met Mayor Jimmy Mize, County Judge Greg Sowell, and Nacogdoches City Manager Mario Canizares. We held a roundtable to discuss important city and county projects needed to improve daily life for local residents. I had a great time, and I am looking forward to working with them on projects in Nacogdoches.

ImageMy new district office in Nacogdoches is now open and ready to serve the needs of my constituents. With it, my staff and I will have a greater capacity to serve the needs of those living in East Texas.

Furthermore, all our offices are ready and excited to serve those who live in Texas 17th Congressional District. If you ever need assistance with anything from federal casework to voicing a concern, don’t hesitate to stop by or give us a call.

50 Anniversary for the March for Life

Today, Americans across our great nation gather to celebrate life. This year marks the 50th anniversary of The March for Life. This event is an annual reminder for us to recognize the high value of every human life. Since last year, those who also believe in the sacred value now have the opportunity to pass matching legislation. I will continue to fight for life in Congress and support similar-minded elected officials.

Legislation that I have cosponsored and supported in Congress includes: Legislation with a * have been introduced to the 118th Congress but do not yet have a bill number.

  • H.R. 26 – Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act: Congressman Sessions joined Congresswoman Ann Wagner and 149 of his colleagues in introducing H.R. 26. This bill would require healthcare providers to perform lifesaving care for any infant that survives an abortion or attempted abortion. H.R. 23 passed the House on January 11, 2023.

  • H.R. 371 – Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2023: H.R. 371 bars Planned Parenthood (PP) from accessing any federal mandatory or discretionary funds. The legislation also authorizes $235M to be reallocated to the thousands of comprehensive community health centers which do not perform abortions.

  • H.R. 372 – Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act of 2023: This bill would require all federally funded entities to certify that they will not perform, and will not provide funds to any other entity that performs an abortion, except in cases of rape or incest or where a physical condition endangers the woman’s life unless an abortion is performed.

  • H.R. 384 – Protecting Life from Chemical Abortions Act: This bill would prevent the Executive Branch from declaring an abortion related public health emergency. The bill would also reinstate in-person dispensing requirements for dangerous chemical abortion drugs, and prohibit the FDA from waiving in-person dispensing requirements.

  • *Life at Conception Act: This legislation defines life as beginning at the moment of conception and seeks to entitle the unborn to legal protection under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

  • *A Resolution supporting the Supreme Court's decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization: This resolution expresses support for the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and thanks the Justices for their commitment to the Constitution and the strength of their institution. Congressman Sessions also joined his colleagues in signing onto an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to uphold Mississippi’s law protecting life.
Sincerely,
