It's a momentous time in our nation’s history

Hi Friend,

I’ve had a long, full life, with a lot of twists and turns, stories and surprises.

But it’s never too late for a new chapter.

At this momentous time in our nation’s history, when our collective heart yearns to meet the challenges we face, my calling now is to join the movement that you all have built, to work with you to help unify our country and fight for a more perfect union.

Please join me this Sunday night (January 22) at 5pm ET for a special Zoom event during which we will celebrate together the successes of the No Labels community, as I gratefully accept the honor of becoming a national co-chair of the organization.

We will talk about the values that unite us, the vision that inspires us, and the plans that will energize us in 2023 and beyond.

Whether it has been civil rights, economic opportunity, or environmental health, every battle I have fought during my career has been animated by the belief that we can truly find collective national solutions only when we approach our problems with harmony and a determination to put people over politics, country over party.

That is why I am so pleased to have joined this cause and this group, which has always placed bipartisanship at the center of its theory of the case about effective problem solving.

I’m looking forward to meeting and working side by side with more of you in the coming weeks and months. And to engaging in what I consider to be the single most important mission in America today – the mission of No Labels.

If you have not yet registered to join me and the other members of our national leadership on Sunday night, you can do so HERE

And forward this nolabels.org/chavis_rsvp to anyone in your circle who you think might wish to attend.

Thank you for what you do.

And I will see you on Sunday at 5:00 PM ET.

Sincerely,

Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr.

Five Facts on the Debt Ceiling Crisis

The fight over raising the debt ceiling is shaping up to be the central story for Congress in 2023. The same House Freedom Caucus faction that held up Kevin McCarthy’s speakership earlier this month also won a commitment that McCarthy would not allow a vote on a bill to raise the debt ceiling in 2023 unless the bill also features deep domestic spending cuts, which Democrats oppose. Here are Five Facts about the debt ceiling, the consequences if we don’t raise it and what it means for Congress in the months ahead.

FAQ: What is the Debt Ceiling?

There is suddenly a lot of fretting in the media about the United States Congress failing to lift the debt ceiling -- which could have a devastating impact on the global economy. It’s a real concern, and to help you understand the challenge facing the nation, here are answers to a few frequently asked questions about the debt ceiling.
