It is a privilege to serve the 23rd Congressional District of Texas in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23.
THE HAPPENINGS IN CONGRESS
Wrote a Letter to the DoD Requesting a Timeline on Repairs to Damaged Military Bases
Last year, eight bases, including Fort Bliss in our district, sustained over a quarter billion dollars in damages while housing Afghan evacuees as part of Operation Allies Welcome. Unfortunately, the Department of Defense (DoD) has chosen not to fully reimburse these bases for their efforts to support Afghan evacuees, leaving them to cover $103.1 million in repair costs out of pocket. While our military continues to feel the strains caused by the withdrawal from Afghanistan, it is essential that these bases are returned to their full operational capacity as soon as possible. That’s why I wrote a letter to the DoD requesting a timeline for when repairs to U.S. military bases damaged by Operation Allies Welcome will be completed. Read the full letter here.
Discussed the Border Crisis With Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
This week I sat down with Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) to give an update on the border crisis and discuss some of the ways we are working to put an end to the chaos. From overflowing processing centers to deadly drugs and human smuggling, this crisis has gone unchecked under Democrat rule. This situation is not isolated to TX-23 with dangerous catch and release policies encouraging the spread of illegal migrants throughout the country. The support of my colleagues is crucial to finding a solution. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues as we continue our efforts to restore national security.
Sat Down With the Men and Women of the Cotulla Border Patrol Station
Six months ago the Border Patrol station in Cotulla, Texas was closed and communities were left to fend for themselves as the dangers around them intensified. Fortunately, the station has recently reopened, relieving some pressure in the area. This week, I had the opportunity to meet with some of the agents serving on the frontlines and thank them for working each day to keep La Salle County and our nation safe.
Met With the New La Salle County Judge
While I was in town, I met with the new La Salle County Judge, Leodoro Martinez to further discuss the Border Patrol station reopening and his perspective on how the border crisis impacts folks in Cotulla. I'm looking forward to working alongside Judge Martinez as we continue our efforts to secure the southern border.
Toured Randolph Air Force Base
This week I went on a tour of Randolph Air Force Base led by Brigadier General Russell Driggers. During my visit, I learned more about their daily operations and was briefed on new developments happening on base. I am grateful for the work these men and women do serving our nation and will continue supporting their mission to protect our country in Congress.
Discussed Constituent Needs With a San Antonio City Council Member
I sat down with San Antonio City Council member Teri Castillo to discuss ways we can continue to advocate for veterans, implement preventative measures for flooding, and satisfy housing needs in San Antonio. As your Representative, I will always meet with constituents and make sure every voice is heard. I look forward to working alongside Teri to bring solutions to these priorities.
While delivering results for my constituents in DC, I strive to be accessible to every constituent in every corner of our district. My team will be holding office hours next week in Crane County. Be sure to stop by!
My team and I are always available to assist you. Please feel free to contact my office at any time.
