John, dark money
has no place in our elections or democracy.
As a grassroots movement, when we gear up to enter a new campaign cycle we
rely deeply on the support and contributions of small-dollar donors to
power our efforts. But that's not the case for many other
campaigns, John.
Almost 12 years ago, Citizens United created loopholes in campaign
disclosure rules to allow funds from groups that don't disclose their
donors to seep into competitive federal elections.^1 This "dark money" has
continued to find its way into every level of our government and even
influences voters — leaving us unable to make informed decisions for our
future.
John, we
cannot continue to let members of Congress be controlled by dark money and
corporations. And we're proud that Jamaal is taking a stand against this
unfair tactic by cosponsoring the Democracy for All Amendment to overturn
Citizens United v. FEC and undo SCOTUS's unfair ruling once and for all.
The Democracy for All Amendment would close legal loopholes that allow
wealthy mega donors, corporations, and special interest groups to exploit
