Team,
Life never completely slows down when you’re in Congress, which means I’ve had a busy first few weeks of the new year.
I’ve been back home in Michigan this week, and wanted to take you behind the scenes:
Last weekend, I had the chance to attend MLK events in Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Detroit. It felt great to be back to traditional MLK events after COVID – it’s a day that’s meant to be celebrated together.
Then, it was on to Eaton County where I was able to chat with some of my new constituents and meet with local leaders. The next day I was in Shiawassee County for more meetings with leaders in Durand and Owosso. Finally, I was able to celebrate the $2.5 million approval to build a new grandstand for the fairgrounds in Mason. This project is something I’ve been hearing about for years, and I’m excited it’s one step closer to being a reality.
When I was campaigning last year, I joked that it was like running for mayor in 30 small towns at once. Now that I’m officially the representative of Michigan’s 7th district, that really hasn’t changed.
Even though I was on the ground constantly last year, it was impossible for me to meet everyone. Which is why I’m always continuing to build important relationships with local leaders, and meet as many constituents as possible. I believe that good leaders don’t just talk the talk: they walk the walk by showing up and listening to the things that are impacting people in their communities.
Congress needs more leaders who are willing to show up and do the work. If you agree, and want to support my brand of honest Midwestern leadership, chip in below.
